## How Frankly compares with Gavmild, Tryg, Alka and Topdanmark

At Gavmild, Tryg, Alka and Topdanmark, four insurance brands in Denmark, your phone and bike are covered by your home contents insurance (indboforsikring), either as part of the standard cover or through an add-on such as extended electronics cover. Alka is part of Tryg. Topdanmark is part of If and changes its name to If on 24 November 2026. At Frankly, each item is covered on its own, with no contents policy required. This comparison is marketing from Frankly, which itself arranges electronics and bike insurance.

Information taken from Gavmild's, Tryg's, Alka's and Topdanmark's own websites and terms on 19 October 2026. We used Gavmild's contents policy with easySure terms IND2026-1, Tryg's Indbo nr. 2012, Alka's contents policy with terms Ting2302 and Topdanmark's contents policy with terms 6676-2. Topdanmark's figures are for its standard contents policy, and the deductible on its electronics add-on is only published for Indbo til unge. Topdanmark changes its name to If on 24 November 2026, and If says prices and cover do not change with the name change. Older policies may have different terms. Frankly Care does not cover theft of electronics. Limits and deductibles may have been adjusted since.

### Extended electronics cover

At all four companies, extended electronics cover is an add-on to the contents policy, and Tryg includes it in its top package, Indbo Super. Gavmild, Tryg and Topdanmark cover both accidents and breakdowns, meaning things that stop working on their own, but breakdowns only for the first four years and not faults that a warranty or the Danish Sale of Goods Act covers. Alka describes its add-on as cover for when you drop or spill on something. Mechanical breakdown can instead be covered by the contents policy itself, but not wear or faults covered by a warranty or the Danish Sale of Goods Act.

The payout drops as the item gets older. With the add-on, Tryg starts depreciating after two years, Gavmild and Topdanmark after four, while Alka does not depreciate electronics under four years old. At Gavmild, a phone between four and five years old gets you 25 percent of the price of an equivalent new one.

[Frankly Care](https://franklyinsure.com/en/coverage/care) covers each item on its own against accidents: when you drop it, spill on it or break it. It also covers fire damage. The deductible is a fixed amount per item and is stated in your policy schedule. If the item is replaced, it will be with a new or fully refurbished product of the same age and condition, and compensation can never exceed the price you paid. The policy can run for up to five years, or 36 months for a smartphone. You need to add cover within 30 days of purchase, and you can claim twice per cover year. Frankly Care does not cover theft. Your contents policy usually does. If most of your devices are Apple, we have also compared [Frankly Care with AppleCare+](https://franklyinsure.com/en/guides/frankly-care-vs-applecare-plus).

### Bike and e-bike insurance in Denmark

All four companies cover bike theft on the contents policy, but only up to a limit you need to raise if your bike or e-bike cost more. Theft claims typically require an approved lock and the bike's frame number, and the payout is often reduced by special depreciation rules for bikes, which [Forsikringsoplysningen explains in Danish](https://forsikringsoplysningen.dk/bolig-og-familie/indboforsikring/cykelforsikring).

Alka covers crashes in its standard contents policy, because accidents are part of its basic cover. Tryg and Topdanmark require an add-on. At Gavmild, bikes are excluded from both sudden damage (pludselig skade) and traffic accident cover, so crashes are not covered. If you choose Gavmild's extended bike theft add-on for a higher limit, the deductible is DKK 1,000, but DKK 5,000 if the bike is worth more than DKK 30,000 and is stolen from a publicly accessible area or an unlocked courtyard.

[Frankly Mobility](https://franklyinsure.com/en/coverage/mobility) covers your bike against theft, vandalism and crashes in one policy. There is no deductible on crashes and other accidents, vandalism, fire or damage to the battery and charger, including during transport on a bike rack when the bike is locked to the car. For theft, the deductible is 10 percent of the payout, minimum DKK 1,500. You get replacement value for the first three years, after which the payout drops by 20 percent of the sum insured for each year started, up to 80 percent in total. The sum insured follows the purchase price, up to DKK 25,000 for a regular bike, DKK 40,000 for an e-bike and DKK 75,000 for a cargo bike. If your e-bike cost more than DKK 40,000, it can be insured for a higher amount at all four companies. Whenever you leave the bike unattended, it must be locked with a Varefakta-approved lock, the Danish approval standard for bike locks, and anywhere other than your own home or your own locked basement room, shed or garage, it must also be locked to something fixed. That includes shared bike basements. If it cost DKK 25,000 or more, two approved locks are required.

### Are appliances covered by contents or house insurance?

Where white goods are covered depends on where you live. If you own a house, white goods usually belong under your house insurance (husforsikring), with its own deductible and rules. If you rent or live in a flat, they are covered by the contents policy. At Alka, they are included if you own them, or if you are responsible for their upkeep and the building's insurance does not cover them. At Gavmild, they are included if you own them or are responsible for their upkeep, and accidents and breakdowns need the electronics add-on. At Tryg, white goods are only part of the contents policy if you rent or live in a co-op or owner-occupied flat, own them yourself and are responsible for their upkeep, and accidents and breakdowns need the extended electronics damage add-on (Udvidet elektronikskade). Topdanmark's electronics add-on covers all indoor electrical appliances you own, including white goods.

### Deductibles and lock-in

At Gavmild, Tryg, Alka and Topdanmark, the deductible (selvrisiko) is set for the whole contents policy, and Gavmild and Topdanmark apply a separate fixed amount on the electronics add-on. At Tryg and Alka you choose the deductible on the contents policy yourself, at Alka from DKK 0. So you pay the same deductible on a DKK 4,000 phone as on a DKK 40,000 computer. With Frankly Care, the deductible is a fixed amount per item and is stated in your policy schedule. The exact terms are in [the policy conditions](https://franklyinsure.com/en/conditions).

At Gavmild and Frankly, cancelling costs nothing, and Gavmild has no payment fee either. At Gavmild, you cancel with the rest of the current month plus one month's notice. With Frankly Care, you pay month by month, you can cancel at the end of the current policy month, and the first month is free. If the product is insured through a leasing or rental agreement, different rules apply. At Tryg and Alka you can cancel your contents policy with 30 days' notice to the end of a month, at Topdanmark with the rest of the current month plus one month's notice. The three may charge a fee if you cancel before the renewal date, and the fee is highest in the first year. Cancelling at the renewal date is free. Alka charges no payment fee if you pay with MobilePay.

### Which one fits you?

If you want your whole home in one place, with car, house and travel at the same company, Tryg, Alka and Topdanmark offer that. Of the three, only Alka covers bike crashes on the contents policy without an add-on, and with the electronics add-on Tryg starts depreciating after two years, Alka and Topdanmark after four. Gavmild arranges the same kind of package with no cancellation fee and no payment fee.

Of the five, Frankly is the only one where you can insure a phone, a computer or an e-bike on its own, without a contents policy with the same company.

Should I cancel my contents insurance if I choose Frankly?

No. Fire, water damage and burglary in your home, and your liability to others, belong on your contents policy. Frankly only covers the items you have added yourself, not your liability. If your contents policy also has an electronics add-on that covers the same damage, read the section on other insurance in the conditions before you insure the item twice.

What is the difference between Gavmild and Frankly?

Gavmild is an insurance intermediary offering cover for the whole household, including contents, home, car and travel insurance, which you buy through an adviser. Frankly arranges cover per item, which you add yourself online from your receipt.

Who pays the claim when you buy through an intermediary?

The insurer, which carries the risk. At Gavmild, that is Eir Försäkring. At Frankly, it is Helvetia Global Solutions for electronics insured from 6 October 2026 and AmTrust International Underwriters for bikes. The intermediary sells and handles your policy, the insurer pays the claim. Which guarantee scheme applies is set out in the insurance conditions for your product.

What happens if I sell the item?

Remove it from your account. When you buy something new, you add it the same way, from the receipt.
